Senegal-born Lebanese artist and architect Nadim Karam obtained his undergraduate degree in architecture from the American University of Beirut and his postgraduate diploma from Tokyo University in 1989.
Back in Beirut, he founded Atelier Hapsitus in 1996. The Atelier is a multi-disciplinary company composed of young architects and designers, who create large-scale urban projects blending architecture, design and art in Europe, the Middle East, Australia and Asia.
Karam’s paintings and sculptures draw on his diverse background and transcend social, political and national borders. He regularly exhibits in solo and collective shows across the world. His work was notably shown at the Liverpool Biennial in England, the Venice Biennale, the Gwangju Biennale in South Korea and SCOPE Art Fair in Basel, Switzerland. Many corporations and cultural foundations in the Middle East, Europe and Asia also acquired his works. Karam has taught architecture in Tokyo and Beirut, where he was Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Art and Design at Notre-Dame University. Booth-Clibborn Editions have published three books on his work; the latest, Arabian Breeze, came out in 2007.
