Musician, comic book author and visual artist Mazen Kerbaj lives and works in Beirut, where he was born and studied graphic arts and advertising at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts.
Kerbaj regularly contributes short stories and comics to Lebanese, French and Italian periodicals, and has published eight books since 2000. In 2006, he published a visual blog commenting the day-to-day life in Beirut during the July war, where he showed drawings by him and his mother, the artist Laure Ghorayeb. Kerbaj’s art is directly inspired by his daily life, his surroundings, encounters and travels, which he draws and sketches with intensity and assiduity, filling small notebooks that accumulate as witnesses to his joined creative and personal life journeys.
Since 2002, Kerbaj’s solo exhibitions have taken place in locations as diverse as Lebanon, Belgium, the United States, Malaysia, Slovakia, Australia, Germany, and France. He has participated in collective exhibitions and audio-visual performances all across Europe and the Middle East.
