The Veiled Series: 

“The Veiled Series was my response to all the fuss about veiled women in the Muslim world. It struck me that while some women veiled their faces, many of us – both male and female – were also veiled, but from within. Veiled emotions, intentions, ambitions, agendas and hopes. I write pages of illegible letters and glyphs in both Arabic and English (veiled words!) and then cover them with an actual veil of thin gauze. Personally, I would rather deal with a veiled exterior than with someone who is veiled from within. Some people are probably veiled both ways!”

Contained Thoughts:

“This is a series of paintings on paper that are rolled into transparent vessels and thus only partially revealed. They reflect my inadequacy, frustration and inability to express what I truly wish to say. They are inner constraints that are outwardly contained.”
