Chaouki Chamoun was born in Sariine, El-Bekaa Lebanon on the 19th of January 1942. After attending architectural design night schools, he joined the Fine Art Institute at the Lebanese University in Beirut in fall 1968 where he received his Diploma of Higher Studies in Painting in 1972. The first in his class, he was awarded a six-year fellowship from the Lebanese University to pursue his graduate studies in the United States. In 1975, he received his Master of Fine Arts from Syracuse University, New York, majoring in Painting with emphasis in Sculpture and Ceramics. From 1975 to 1979 he followed the PhD program at the Art Education Department, New York University, NY concentrating on Aesthetics and Studio Art, where he was awarded a Meritorious Commendation for High Scholastic Achievement
He has had over Thirty-five One-Man Shows since 1975. Exhibiting in Beirut, New York, and other cities in the United States, Europe and the Arab World and represented mainly by Epreuve d’Artiste Gallery in Beirut. He has participated in over fifty five group Art Shows and biennales since 1968 including: Rochester Memorial museum 1974, Lowe Art Centre, Syracuse1975, Soursouk Museum, Beirut, 1984, 2001, 2006, 2008, Europ’Art, Geneva 1999, Sotheby’s Exhibit and Auction, London Oct.2007. Christie’s, Exhibit and Auction Dubai, 2007 and 2008, Art Paris Exhibit, Abou Dhabi Nov. 2007and Nov.2008. Alexandria Biennale 2008, the Katzen Art Museum, Washington DC, Abu Dhabi Art 2010, MENASA art fair Beirut,2010-2012.His work is in severalpublic and private Art Collections .
In 2007, Chamoun registered at Christie’s Dubai a record sale for a living Lebanese artist, and Art Price ranked him in the top 25 newly auctioned Artists world wide. In its 2011 ballot, The Arabian Business Magazine named him as one of the power 500 most influential professional Arabs in the World.
Chamoun has had to his name many high profile Architectural and interior design projects to include Dress Barn Suffern, NY- New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington among many US major cities and towns in 46 states, 1992-2004, Bloomingdale, Bloomington, Minnesota,1991, Sacks Fifth Avenue , NY1987, Jordan Marsh, Newington, NH and Miami Florida1981, Scarborough’s, Austin Texas,1979,and Alexander’s dept Store, the World Trade Centre, New York.1979
As of 1974, Chamoun has taught Art at Syracuse University, NY, USEK University, Kaslik, Lebanon, Lebanese University, Beirut, and the American University of Beirut and currently at the Lebanese American University, Beirut. His work is heavily reviewed in News papers, Magazines, Televisions and Radios, Locally and internationally. He is featured in several Art books. His book ‘The Art and Life of Chaouki Chamoun’ published by Saqi ,London, 2013
