Born in Beirut, Ara Azad is based in Boston, Ma., since 1982. He graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Tufts University, and the Institute for Global Leadership.
Azad paints, sculpts and creates site-specific installations and performances. His in-situ works have been executed in several cities across the United States, the Middle East, and recently in Monaco.
In 1995, he embarked on an ongoing project, Postal Paintings, brought about by a curiosity to challenge trust and human experience. He painted canvases that he mailed unwrapped and exposed, so that works bore the trace of their postal journey to their destination, thus creating an unbreakable human chain testified by trust.
Since the nineties, Azad has exhibited in Lebanon, the United States, and Europe, and was present at Art Dubai in 2010. He was notably chosen to represent the United States at the Florence Biennale of 2003. Azad is also involved in art education in Germany, Bahrain and Lebanon. He is the former representative of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.
